Al-Sadr Suspends Militia Activity in Iraq   [W. Thomas Smith Jr.]

BAGHDAD (AP) — Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has ordered a six-month suspension of activities by his Mahdi Army militia in order to reorganize the force, and it will no longer attack U.S. and coalition troops, aides said Wednesday.

QUICK NOTE: Not sure what this might actually mean for us in terms of future, strategic impact (or what Al-Sadr's intentions might really be), but from a military perspective this does present several opportunities, not the least of which are regrouping (repositioning), observation (and analysis), negotiation, and above all, time.

More to come on this.
